In the middle of the 13th century, the Mongol Khan Ogedei has been poisoned, triggering a succession battle that pits the evil usurper BATU and his brothers against TORGINA, the regent queen, and her Shaman son TEB.
Unfortunately Torgina's elder son and heir to the khanate, GUYUK, has mysteriously disappeared during the campaign in the west, leaving his mother alone and vulnerable.
Back in the west, papal assassin CARPINI is called out of retirement by POPE INNOCENT IV. He is sent on a mission to the Mongol court, to find out more about this new deadly enemy and to deal with the traitor monk ODERIC who works for the Pope's political nemesis King FREDERICK II, The Holy Roman Emperor.
Carpini is accompanied on his mission by STEPHEN, a young novice monk, who succumbs to the charms of Constantinople concubine and Buddhist teacher PASHMINA and her Uncle VOLTAN.
A hazardous journey and character-forming experiences await this party of road buddies, who are joined by Guyuk along the way.
The script includes moderate sex scenes and violence but no profanity.
